About Mietcheck

What Mietcheck does

Mietcheck compares your rent with the official federal rent figures and explains what rights you have as a tenant. We also collect reports about individual buildings, so that you know what you are getting into before you move.

What it costs

Nothing. Mietcheck is a free service from zzd, a small Swiss web studio. There is no advertising, no paywall and nothing to subscribe to.

Where the figures come from

All rent figures come from the structural rent survey of the Federal Statistical Office. Postcodes and municipalities are matched to cantons using the official list of localities from the Federal Office of Topography swisstopo. We do not add anything and we do not estimate anything.

Where the figures stop

The survey is broken down by canton and by type of municipality, not by individual streets. It tells you what is usual in the canton. It does not tell you whether your particular flat is worth its price. Where there is too little data, we show no result at all.

How we handle tenant reports

Every report is checked by hand before it appears. Reports that name people are not published. We do not invent reports and we do not buy any in. If there is nothing about an address yet, then there is nothing.
